Happy New Year Everybody! Just back from the holiday break and the Gurley St. property rehab just a few minutes from downtown Durham is well under way. We are doing a combination of serious changes to the house which includes, raising the roof line on the back “newer” part of the house to achieve an 8/12 pitch, vaulting the ceilings in the rooms below, removing a bedroom to both increase a bedroom size and also to add a HUGE new master bath. The original ceilings in the “old” front part of the house have a “beadboard” or “shiplap” style 10 ft. ceiling that actually turned out to be HIDDEN above an 8’ drop ceiling- NO idea why the previous owners decided to do this and hide an amazing feature of this house while also making the house seem smaller.
